Welcome to Banning Gandalf, where we will explore some of the challenges to J.R.R Tolkien's epic fantasy work The Lord of The Rings. Despite being critically acclaimed since the publishing of The Hobbit in 1937, the series has been much reviled by a particular agglomeration of disparate religious groups for two principal reasons; being satanic in content and seeking to blend christian faith with pagan faith (Syncretism). We will explore both of these challenges in depth as well as respond to them. Given that the reasons The Lord of The Rings gets challenged are not unique to it but rather belong to a whole slew of similar works, there is much more to be said in this vain than we shall go into here.
